FM Office Dress Code
Purpose
Maintain a professional appearance while providing services to our customers. Employees are asked to follow the BYU–Hawaii dress and grooming standards as well as dress appropriately for the workplace. A modest, clean, and neat appearance should be maintained. Please use the following principles when dressing for work.
Principles
- All male students must be clean-shaven with hair trimmed about the collar of a dress shirt and above the ear.
- One piercing per ear is permitted for women. All other piercings should be removed while at work. Piercings are not permitted for men.
- Clothing must be neat and tidy in appearance. Avoid clothing that is worn-through, frayed, torn, or has holes in it, including holes below the knee.
- Athletic attire should not be worn in the office, including biker shorts, leggings, basketball shorts, sweats, and board shorts, etc.
- Pants should be professional in style and color, i.e., black, blue, gray, and khaki. Business casual jeans that are neat and tidy are permitted.
- Shorts that are professional in style are permitted in the office. They must reach the kneecap while sitting.
- Dresses and skirts must be professional in style and color. They must reach the kneecap while sitting and standing.
- Clothing is required to have sleeves and must cover the shoulders, back, and stomach. Clothing should not be form-fitting (tight), revealing, sheer, or low-cut.
Uniform
- Students and interns are to wear the office polo.
- Full-time and part-time employees may wear the office polo and may also choose to wear business casual attire.
- Sweaters and jackets should not completely cover the office uniform. It should be modest and professional in color and style and left open at the front. A light long-sleeved shirt that is white, black, or gray may be worn under the office uniform.
- Clothing should be modest and professional in color and style so as to complement, not detract from, the uniform.
Aloha Friday
- Every Friday, employees are encouraged to dress in Aloha Wear. Students may choose to wear aloha attire instead of wearing the uniform. Aloha wear is considered shirts, dresses, and blouses with floral or tribal prints associated with Hawaii or other Polynesian islands. They may also include Asian influences.
